Hop in and let's go fishin'!

Hi!
Welcome to my blog!
I'll document and share my passion for bass fishing right here! From tackle to fishing tips, equipment reviews to fishing reports. I'll throw in a dash of other types of fishing and whatever else comes to mind! Make yourself at home here and enjoy your stay!
It's the Right thing to do!

It's the Right thing to do!

Hey gang!

Just a quick blog about something that is super important to us here at Laughs-n-Lures as it should be to all of us. If you enjoy watersports like fishing, boating, swimming, jet skiing to mention a few, you should know the importance of concepts like conservation and preservation. I was raised right and one thing you did not do in front of an elder in my family was litter! That would be considered an infraction and usually followed by some sort of physical contact! As a medic in an urban environment, I see first hand what happens to an area where the concept of finding an appropriate trash receptacle has somehow been lost. The results are saddening to me and actually further drive me to never let that happen to the areas where I live and play! I live in the country at the base of the mountains and you will occasionally find me and my family at the entrance to our road cleaning up garbage that some misguided soul has flung out the window. I'm not going to preach but, I am going to urge you to help me fight the good fight!

Since we are trash talkin' and I am a fisherman, I am going to frame this blog in that exact manner. Before I get into it, this is the overall message for everyone and in every place. Please Do Not Litter!! s we walk around our respective properties and come upon some trash, we pick it up and dispose of it properly. It is not always that easy on a lake or other body of water. But, if you are at the lake, river, creek or otherwise and you see trash, pick it up before it gets into the water. Just because you can't always see it does not mean it's not there and since I like to fish, I'm concerned. Garbage is extremely harmful to the environment and the creatures in the lake definitely feel the effects.

That being said, let's get into the meat! As a fisherman, I am constantly on my boat. There is little that frustrates me more than when I find fishing line wrapped around my main motor or trolling motor propellers. This is extremely aggravating and costly! I'm acutely aware that at times when you are fishing and get broke off when you hook a fish or get snagged on something, it is unavoidable and cannot be helped. What is not acceptable to me is when I witness other fishermen discarding used or otherwise damaged fishing line into the water. This is Wrong! I for one, wish it would stop and stop immediately! Not only is the causing a nuisance, it is down right dangerous! The DNR has made the public aware that there are miles of old fishing line in our lakes just lying in wait to snare unsuspecting folks wading and swimming. And with the popularity of braided fishing line, the chance of being able to break the line to free yourself are sadly, remote at best. My home lake is Lake Sydney Lanier in North GA and it gets enormous fishing pressure. Thus, I always wonder with so many drownings per year, are any of these tragedies tied{pun intended) to fishing line? The damage to motors is one thing, but the senseless loss of life is something else all together. The Corps. of Engineers has a receptacle for old fishing line located at just about every boat ramp I've been to and we need to use them.....We NEED to do the Right thing!

Just something to think about.
